PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Cardiovascular disease, including ASCVD and HF, is the number one cause of death for patients with T2DM. Insulin resistance, impaired insulin signaling, and hyperglycemia in T2DM cause physiologic and epigenic changes which contribute to atherogenesis, diabetic cardiomyopathy, and HF. Diabetic kidney disease also has cardiac effects. There is a wealth of data on cardiovascular outcomes associated with diabetes drugs, which has led the ADA and other societies to update guidelines on the management of patients with T2DM who have or who are at high risk for CVD and/or HF.

Managing Heart Disease in Type 2 Diabetes: Incorporating Diabetes Drugs into the Management of Cardiometabolic Disease will familiarize Family Practice and Internal Medicine physicians with the pathophysiology of CVD in T2DM, provide data on the cardiovascular outcomes for diabetes drugs, and detail recommendations from several societies regarding the use of these agents in patients with T2DM who have CVD and/or HF.
